Timeless Looks with Modern Features from Falco Holsters
Anyone who carries a handgun, be it for professional duty or for personal use, knows that the fit and comfort of the holster is just as important as the feel of the firearm. There are several different materials used for holsters, but many will say the same thing – nothing beats leather. Falco Holsters has been around since 1989, and produces some of the finest holsters available and in many different materials. Its latest Enhanced Timeless Leather line perfectly blends all the features you would want in a classic leather holster with modern nuances that meet the exacting demands of gun owners everywhere.
Time After Time
Falco’s original Timeless line has been a favorite among shooters for many years. These classic leather holsters have been used by law enforcement, security, hunters, competition shooters and countless everyday users. Falco took in feedback from all of these customers and used it to refresh the line. They also reached out to experts in the field, as well as media members who spend countless hours using products and evaluating them against the competition.
Why is this important for you to know? Think of it this way. Have you ever had a favorite vehicle that seemed almost perfect and you drive it every day, and then decide to replace it with the newest model, only to be disappointed? That’s not that uncommon. It is often the case where a company uses its own internal designers to come up with ideas that should work, but sometimes really miss the target. More and more companies these days are going to the consumers and influencers to gain valuable feedback on a product and then they get to work incorporating those concepts into a practical upgrade. That is where these new holsters fit a new Timeless version of a timeless design.
What Changed?
One thing that is found with every new Enhanced Timeless holster is the open muzzle/open bottom design. This helps keep the barrel clean from dirt and any unwanted obstructions. Having an open muzzle also allows you to carry pistols with threaded barrels, and with the increasing popularity of suppressors, this is an important feature.
Falco looked at how your firearm should fit in the holster in proportion to where it is carried against your body. There were specific reasons behind this. Comfort is a concern, especially with appendix carry. If your holster irritates you when you wear it, that causes you to either not want to wear it at all, or it becomes a distraction, which affects your situational awareness. Falco designers built all IWB models with an optional claw that helps tip the grip of your handgun toward your body for better concealment.
It is similar to another feature with IWB and OWB pancake style holster that have newly developed forward molding that uses the shape of your handgun to keep it more in tune with the lines of your body and therefore better concealed. OWB holsters also feature Falco’s FBI forward cant that again helps with comfort and concealment. It is a 10-15 degree cant based on model that is perfect for 3- and 5-o’clock positioning. IWB holsters have no cant, also called the straight hip cant, which is very good for appendix and 2 o’clock carry uses.
Beefed Up Security
Added security was also a design focal point. Falco’s thumb breaks are reinforced with steel to ensure your handgun will be ready and securely held in place. The steel is sandwiched between two layers of leather. This helps keep the handgun where it needs to be, and easy for you to draw when needed, but more difficult for someone to try to grab from your person. Good stuff!
Falco also took a hard look at the mouth of its Timeless holsters. The new leather holsters have a mouth that is reinforced with an additional layer of premium full-grain leather. The point here is to help retain the shape of the holster and keep the holster easily accessible for one-handed re-holstering. This helps you with practicing too, as you can more easily predict where the holster is, and get your handgun secured back into the holster, without having to take your eyes or attention off of “external situations.”
Sights and Lights
One of the biggest adaptions holster makers have had to make in recent years is the ever-increasing popularity of reflexive sights on handguns. Some manufacturers added a slot to an existing holster, but what Falco did was look at how adapting the design to accept the reflex sight could improve the function of the holster. This feature allows for a smooth draw, yet still provides a secure fit for your firearm. The same can be said for models designed to fit pistols with rail-mounted lights. Pistol lights are by no means a new development, but Falco also looked at how it could fit these models while improving the functionality of the holster.
All Enhanced Timeless holsters are made of ⅛-inch thick, 7- to 8 oz, premium full-grain Italian leather for the best quality. They now come in color options – old school tan, saddle brown, and black. Every holster is molded to the exact shape of your gun for a perfect fit. Falco still relies on the traditional, hand-dyed, oiled, lacquered, and hand-crafted attention to detail you can only find from skilled craftsmen.
“While our stitching creates a masterpiece of a holster its function is way above the looks. Holsters are carefully stitched with a solid thread and double-stitched in areas of the highest stress to prevent deformation & maximize their lifespan,” says Falco. “All harnesses and straps on shoulder holsters are stitched all around which also prevents their deformation. Rivets, snaps, and screws on the whole holster are either incorporated between two layers of leather or hidden behind the plastic cover to protect the finish of your precious handgun.”
