TFB Review: Strike Industries Enhanced P365 Grip Module
The Strike Industries Enhanced Grip Module for P365s is a good-looking grip module, aimed to give you a little bit more performance out of your carry piece. Strike Industries sent one out for a review, and I’ll give you an honest review and opinion.
Fitment
My personal Sig Sauer is the bare bones, run-of-the-mill, regular old P365. I added a flat-faced trigger and an optics-ready slide with a Romeo-X compact optic. The gun world’s marketing departments have really taken to the letter “X” in recent years, and honestly, I still get tripped up by it from time to time.
A normal P365 has a short slide and a “pinky dangler” grip. The P365XL has a little bit longer slide and a full-length grip. It’s still ultra-concealable and considered a micro compact by many. Sig also makes an X Macro that is a little bit bigger but considered a compact and has a 17-round capacity. When you put a short P365 slide and barrel on a P365XL grip module, you make a P365X. The X describes the long grip/ short slide combo. Sig uses the term X in a lot of other products as well, to describe a better product or feature set, but it’s a different use of the letter X. For instance, they stamp their XL slides with just a letter X.
The Strike Industries Enhanced Grip Module for P365s accepts all lengths of slides, from the small P365 up to the X Macro. It will also take all magazines, except for the short “pinky dangler” 10-round mags. If you started with the original P365, you can upgrade to a P365X for the cost of the grip module and magazines. You can even throw your manual safety FCU into this grip module, as long as you’re willing to do some dremel work.
Installation
Sig makes it very easy to swap grip modules. You can swap from one grip module to another in about 5 minutes. You remove the slide, then push one pin out, and rock the FCU out of the grip module. Then you rock the new FCU into the new grip module, push the pin in until it “clicks,” and put the slide back on. There’s not much to it, you don’t even necessarily need tools. I can take the pin out of mine with an ink pen.
Design
The Strike Industries Enhanced Grip Module feels great in the hand. It has a lot of well-thought-out curves. There’s a little bit of a palm swell and a nice undercut. There’s a thumb ledge for your firing hand when shooting one-handed, and also one for your support hand. Personally, I really like the magwell flare. It’s not too big but locks your hand in and pushes it up higher. The stippling is there, but not super aggressive. The polymer feels like a high-quality polymer. It feels nice and solid in the hand.
The size of the grip module is also great. It lends itself to perfect trigger finger placement for me. My fingers don’t get pinched on reloads either. The grip module includes a good-sized beaver tail, that prevents slide bite and allows for a high grip.
The magazine release the module comes with is easy to push when you want to, but is low profile enough for carry. Strike Industries sells it separately, but it comes pre-installed in the grip module. It’s slightly extended, and has a better look and feel. The design of the release face is meant to prevent your thumb from slipping off. It also does not release the mag when the gun is flat on a table. Mine felt a little gritty when new, but smoothed out and feels great.
The built-in magazine well makes reloading fast and easy. It’s a well-designed magwell that’s big enough to work as a funnel but doesn’t stick out much further than my optic, if at all. It still allows a little bit of space in the front and back to allow for pinching the magazine, in case you have to rip one out.
There is also an accessory rail to mount small lights or lasers. Know the P365 is a pretty small framed pistol, and there are not a lot of Picatinny mounted flashlights that will fit correctly. Please check out Strike’s website for the latest flashlight models that fit.
Holster Compatibility
Holster compatibility is going to be the only place I can criticize the grip module design. I tried three different holsters and only found one to work. The original P365 grip module has a proprietary accessory rail, and the Picatinny rail on the Strike Industries Enhanced Grip Module is just a little too wide for most custom-fit Kydex holsters. I tried a Raven Vanguard, and another custom Kydex holster, and they didn’t work. I was not able to adjust the tension, the Pic rail just had too much material. I found it to work perfectly well with a half-leather, half-Kydex holster.
Final Thoughts and Opinions
The Strike Industries Enhanced Grip Module is a great grip module option for any flavor of P365. Its low MSRP and high feature set make it a pretty solid contender to try out.
The Picatinny rail prevents holster compatibility with my favorite holsters but does allow the option to mount more accessories. I could see someone buying this module with the intention of having a light-bearing holster custom molded for their setup. Personally, I’m not against having a flashlight on your EDC. If you can handle a little bit of extra weight, why not? Strike’s website shows they are also working with a holster manufacturer to make holster options for this grip module. That being said, I do wish Strike offered a version with the standard rail that was compatible with my ultra-minimalist holster.
The grip modules are currently listed on Strike’s website for $54.95. The module includes their enhanced magazine release, which usually sells for $24.95 by itself. I think this is the most affordable P365 grip module on the market at the time of this article, and doesn’t sacrifice performance for cost. I’m very impressed with the look, function, and feel of the grip module, and I bet you would be too.
