[SHOT 2025] SNT Brings the Heat – The K2 Comes to America
There’s been a lot of buzz around news that South Korea’s SNT Motiv are attending SHOT and have some potentially good news – the classic K2 may soon be available in the US.
SNT Motiv, formerly better known as Daewoo, have long produced South Korea’s small arms. Daewoo K2s have long been coveted by those seeking something a little different in 5.56mm.
SNT are hoping to bring the K2 to the US as the K2S, a semi-automatic version of the select-fire K2. They’re currently working to get ATF approval and suggested that in the best case they’ll be able to begin import, manufacture and assembly in the US by June 2025 or at the latest December 2025.
Here’s the specs for the K2S:
Caliber – 5.56 x 45mm NATO (.223 Remington)Operating System – Gas PistonWeight – 7.5lb (3.4kg) ± 5%Barrel – 18.3″ (465mm)Length (Overall) – 38.6″ (980mm)
SNT Motiv have made minimal changes to the rifle but have tried to keep the rifle true to its classic form. Unsurprisingly, the K2S has had the auto sear and auto sear cut out removed and has a AR-15 selector lever.
Another great reason to visit the SNT Motiv booth is the opportunity to check out South Korea’s K15 and K16 machine guns.
The K2S will be all new production with US-made parts integrated as well as new manufactured furniture. SNT Motiv suggested the MSRP may be between $1200 and $1500 which would be an exciting prospect for the US market and if a success it opens up some tantalising potential future offerings.,
