[SHOT 2025] PTR-63 And The New Vent Spiritus 5.56i Silencer

PTR demonstrated various products at Industry Day at the Range 2025 including their Vent silencers and PTR-63 rifle. I took advantage of the opportunity to shoot both while I had the chance. As fun as it is to see the latest and greatest products at the booths on the show floor, getting to actually shoot them is even better.

PTR @ TFB:

PTR-63

The PTR-63 has been on display at the last two SHOT Shows, and this year it was out on the range. It is a 5.56 NATO rifle that takes its design queues from the HK G41 rifle. It feeds from STANAG magazines rather than the proprietary magazines used in the HK93-pattern rifles. The controls incorporate some AR features thanks to the magazine, like a bolt catch.

This year we finally had the opportunity to shoot it. It was running well as numerous people cycled through the range bay. The blend of HK-style and AR-style controls were a little trippy at first, like when two separate groups of your friends are at the same party and you don’t know how to bridge the gap but love them both. With a little time though, those controls would start to meld and the best way to run this gun will surely emerge. MSRP on the PTR-63 is $1,799.

Silencers

The Vent family of silencers uses induced porosity to control gas flow through the suppressor. That means there are tiny holes throughout the design which intentionally allow gasses to seep through at controlled rates. PTR patented this technology, which it calls Purposely Induced Porosity (PIP).

This design principle continues with the Vent Spiritus 5.56i, but the material changes. The other Vent silencers are made of titanium while the Spiritus is made from Inconel. That is an even more robust material and it is made for use on very high volume guns, and it is full auto rated. The Vent Spiritus 5.56i retails for $1,249, and includes a 1/2×28 direct thread mount as well as HUB threads for adding the mount of your choice.
