POTD: The New Heckler & Koch MR556 A4

I think TFB’s James Reeves took care of the most entertaining part of introducing the new Heckler & Koch MR556 A4 – as in shooting it suppressed. That doesn’t mean that TFB’s Photo Of The Day can’t have a part in its introduction. My own H&K MR223 (EU version) is now going into 15 years of ownership, and while it may not see so much action any longer it’s perhaps for an upgrade?

The A4’s new short-stroke gas piston system means it keeps its hot, dirty business to itself, sparing the action from a carbon-coated mess. With the new adjustable gas regulator, you can dial in the perfect tune for both suppressed and unsuppressed setups—because who doesn’t love a bit of customization? The weight of the “normal” version is 7.67 lb.

If you like looking a little silly, there’s also a pistol version that looks like this.

On top of all this, there are fully ambidextrous controls, lighter weight, and a slim, trim profile so that you can operate it easier.

Despite the price point, I think these will show up in pretty good numbers in 2025.
