POTD: Multicam Superman & The FN M240L Machine Gun
The “Superman” title isn’t meant as a clickbait, I promise. It’s just the first thing I thought of when I saw the image above, as I was scouting more material for this Photo Of The Day. The images are from the U.S. Army Forces Command (FORSCOM), where indirect-fire infantrymen and cavalry scouts from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division, held an M240L machine gun zeroing and qualifications. I think our “Superman” is deploying a tripod on a timed event, and doing so with full speed.
The qualifications went on both day and night, sending a volume of 7.62×51 NATO rounds downrange and engaging a series of close and distant targets.
Here’s how FN USA describes the M240L:
“The M240 (also known as the FN MAG® or FN MAG® 58) family of medium machine guns (7.62x51mm NATO) has long been employed by all services of the U.S. Armed Forces.Developed under a series of STS tasks, the U.S. Army’s recently adopted M240L sheds 5 pounds via a titanium receiver and polymer trigger frame. The M240L is equipped with a 4″ shorter barrel and a redesigned collapsible buttstock assembly. The M240L variant is equipped with the forward-mounted MIL-STD 1913 rail kit.”
