POTD: Izhevsk Mechanical Plant – New MP-439 Competition Pistol

It’s uncommon for TFB’s Photo Of The Day to introduce a new handgun, let alone a Russian one, but today represents such an event. The Kalashnikov Concern has released the new MP-439 small-caliber sporting pistol and provided four samples to the Lukin Integrated Sports School of the Olympic Reserve. Vladimir Yarygin, the pistol’s designer and a veteran of the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, introduced the model at the Russian Air Gun Shooting Cup.

The MP-439 is based on the MTsM small-caliber pistol and is intended for beginners practicing at distances up to 25 meters. It uses .22 LR cartridges, has a 10-round magazine, and a maximum shot dispersion of 40 millimeters at 25 meters according to the source.

Compared to its predecessor, the MP-439 includes balance adjustments, as well as customizable trigger slack and pull weight. It has an adjustable rear sight for elevation and windage and a front sight with interchangeable width plates. The redesigned grip is made to suit users aged 10 and up.

According to the manufacturer, the pistol features an improved magazine and ejector system for better reliability. The striker has been modified to prevent contact with the breech block, and the front of the slide has been reinforced for durability. The slide also has rear serrations for easier handling.
