POTD: FN M249S – The Machine Gun That Doesn’t Machine
Do NOT get me wrong here! Although the FN M249S doesn’t really “machine”, as it’s a semi-automatic version of the real thing, I really love it. This is the PARA version, and it’s one of the very few in existence in Europe. There probably aren’t too many in the USA either, considering its price tag of $11,094. In Europe it’s close to double, considering shipping, export duties and dealer’s profit. Yet, if I could, I would rock one!
The M249S Para you see here appeared by coincidence at the local range, so I snapped a few images of it. Perfect for TFB’s Photo Of The Day, don’t you think?
Here’s what FN America has to say:
“Own the newest addition to the Military Collector Series – the FN M249S® PARA, a semi-auto version of the currently contracted FN® M249 PARA. The PARA was designed for airborne, armored infantry and close quarters combat (CQC) operations with a shorter barrel and collapsible buttstock. It retains all of the features of the FN® M249 SAW and can be field-converted back to the standard model configuration in just 30 seconds.” ( Source)
That empty Picatinny rail is screaming for an optic. And the muzzle is screaming (pun intended) for a suppressor.
Please make mine product number 46-100172, for FN M249S Para FDE. With a few ammo boxes and M27 links to go with it. I’d put the new Spuhr RDF Aimpoint Mount with a magnifier on it, as I enjoy a red dot more than irons.
