NEW Smith & Wesson M&P Carry Comp Series
Smith & Wesson has just announced a new series within the M&P line of pistols, the M&P Carry Comp series. For anyone not in the know as to what a Carry Comp is, it involves compensating the muzzle rise during recoil by venting gas upward against the impulse through a compensator cut into the pistol’s slide and barrel near the muzzle. Compensators have been rising in popularity with the handgun market for some time and S&W has included them as add-on features for their M&P 2023 Spec series. However, the new S&W M&P Carry Comp series comes with the compensator cut directly from the slide and barrel.

NEW S&W M&P CARRY COMP SERIES
The Smith & Wesson Carry Comp series will be available for 9mm across three different frame sizes; full-size, compact, and micro-compact. The full-size Carry Comp is represented with S&W’s M&P9 Metal frame, the compact Carry Comp frame is polymer, as is the micro-compact from the M&P Shield Plus line. This isn’t S&W’s first foray into integral compensators, as they’ve already been doing this with the Performance Center M&P 10mm pistol, and I had the pleasure of reviewing the S&W 19 Carry Comp revolver a couple years ago. Smith & Wesson’s full press release on the new M&P Carry Comp series can be read below.

The strategically designed Power Port™, located at the end of the barrel at the twelve o’clock position, diverts gas upwards, reducing felt recoil, which improves overall control. If iron sights are preferred, these models also include a tritium front night sight and blacked-out serrated rear sight out of the box for an enhanced sight picture. Boasting a new aesthetic, M&P9 Carry Comp slides were developed with aggressively angled front and rear serrations to increase reliability and improve manipulation against tougher elements.
