Missouri Congressman Plans Bill To Abolish The ATF
It would be an understatement to say that we live in politically turbulent times, but if you needed one more example, get this. U.S. Representative Eric Burleson (seen above) says he plans to introduce a bill to abolish the ATF.

The idea behind the move
Gun owners have been complaining about the ATF for decades, so Burlison’s idea is nothing new, not even for Congress. What he is proposing sounds like it’s a rehash of Rep. Matt Gaetz’s proposed bill from January 2023, which was given the no-nonsense name of H.R.374 – Abolish the ATF Act. No messing about there.
That bill was referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary, but never went anywhere from there, so now Burlison thinks it’s time to revisit the idea. Along with Representatives Lauren Boebert, Paul Gosar, Mary Miller, Andy Biggs, Cory Mills, Mike Collins, Barry Moore, Thomas Massie and Bob Good, Burlison was a co-sponsor of Gaetz’s original bill, so there’s a history here.
Burlison went on X/Twitter after giving an interview to Fox News about his plans and said “The ATF has been a disaster for the American people and our God-given Second Amendment rights.
“It should absolutely be abolished.”

Again, no messing about there. And with the winds of changing blowing through Washington D.C., Burlison may find more support for the abolishment than Gaetz did last time—but still, it seems hard to believe that things have changed that much.
If Burlison’s plan works out, he believes state governments can enforce firearms-related laws, with no need for a federal bureau to do so.
