Griffin Armament Enhanced Gas Pocket Bolt Carrier Group
Griffin Armament has introduced a new AR-15 bolt carrier group called Enhanced Gas Pocket BCG. This BCG is designed to reduce the right ear sound signature when used with suppressors. It achieves this goal by having the gas vent holes on the left side and venting the excess gasses into a milled pocket and the receiver itself as opposed to venting out through the ejection port.

Here is how Griffin Armament describes the benefits of this BCG’s design:
“The main design feature is a proprietary gas pocket where gas is vented into on the left side of the receiver. This pocket captures escaping gas increasing dwell time and reducing sound signature at the shooter’s right ear, a near-unsolvable problem inherent and well-known to suppressed AR-15 shooters. This gas pocket is capable of reducing sound signature at the shooter’s ear by 10.5 dB on 18″ barrel rifle gas platforms. Sound reduction is correlated to the length of the gas system, but even on an 11.5″ barrel with a carbine-length gas system, users can expect to see a minimum of 3.5 dB sound reduction at the shooter’s ear – even when used with “high-flow” printed silencers.”
The Griffin Armament Enhanced Gas Pocket BCG is made of 17-4 stainless steel and has a nitrided finish. The bolt features dual ejectors. The extractor and ejector springs are made of 17-7 steel for better temperature resistance. The carrier key is nickel boron finished.
This bolt carrier group has an increased cam pin travel distance (by .060”), which increases the time between the start of the bolt carrier’s rearward motion and the unlocking of the action. According to Griffin Armament, this further reduces the escaping concussion blast traveling back down the barrel and out the ejection port.
The gas key has a proprietary design and when paired with Griffin Armament’s M4 CAR +15% buffer spring and shortened buffer allows for longer BCG travel distance which is advertised to reduce recoil impulse and improve bolt lock reliability by allowing more time for the bolt catch to actuate.
The Griffin Enhanced Gas Pocket BCG also features a physical carrier key stop to protect its screws from getting damaged as well as an anti-tilt design to reduce wear caused by the carrier key tilt.
Other features of this BCG include the radiused locking lugs, carbon scraper and pressure relief cuts. To learn more about the design and performance of this new bolt carrier group, watch the following video.
