Concealed Carry Corner: What Your Car Says About Your Carry Gun

Welcome back to another edition of Concealed Carry Corner. Last week we talked about how to carry a concealed handgun around crowds and things to avoid. If you happened to miss that article be sure to click the link here to check it out. This week, I wanted to have a bit more fun since the last few weeks have been more serious topics that are certainly important but can weigh a little on people. We all make choices on what firearm to carry, but there are certainly times when people drive vehicles and therefore as a result, show what kind of gun they carry by the choice of their vehicle. This is a lighthearted article so if you drive a vehicle and I get your carry gun wrong, it’s okay to jump in the comments and have fun with this one. Let’s take a closer look at what your car says about your carry gun.

Toyota Tacoma/4Runners

One of the most common vehicles you will see in the gun community is an earth tone colored Tacoma or 4runner. These guys are the Glock 19 carriers of the world because they are modular, dependable and practical. Most Tacoma owners I have met will have a fully custom Ronin style Glock 19 with a red dot, weapon light, and occasionally compensator or +2 base plate extension. It’s certainly not a bad thing since they buy quality parts for their carry gun and truck, but there’s certainly a look when you go the tactical grey man route. It may not be the most subtle route to go, but it certainly is a common trend in the gun community.

These guys are often more prepared than other people with gear and medical supplies if they have some sort of overland rig. Having a vehicle to go into the outdoors and carrying a concealed handgun are both ways to be more prepared in daily life. Most Tacoma owners train and it’s another aspect of the prepared lifestyle they have been chasing after them. These guys are some of the most common types of gun guys around and they always seem helpful and always want to talk to other gun guys.

Ford Fusion

Out of everyone, this guy is typically the wild card. He could be the type of guy that carries a $6,000 custom 1911 or he could be carrying a Canik MC9 METE in the original factory polymer holster. These people will often carry crazy guns and have a less flashy vehicle in order to prioritize their carry guns and have options for various situations.

There are plenty of people out there who will sink a ton of money into their hobbies and passions with less money going to transportation needs. This is the most dedicated person in the gun community typically because they have a passion for shooting and want to prioritize their shooting over other aspects of their life. If they carry the Canik, they just want an option to protect themselves and just like the vehicle they drive, it’s practical and affordable but gets the job done and that’s respectable on its own.

Chevy Silverado

There are two distinct Silverado owners when it comes to the concealed carry world. The first version is the truck full of chrome which usually means it’s an older carrier. These guys like their old-style revolvers, 1911s, and talk about how fantastic the good old days were when everyone carried metal framed guns and something bigger than these wimpy 9mm polymer sissy guns. Most times these guys will be carrying a K-frame Smith & Wesson or their trusty Commander 1911 because it’s a “real gun” over the smaller polymer junk.

I have met my fair share of fudds in the community, but the biggest fudds I’ve ever met have been chrome Silverado owners when it comes to carry guns and gear. They almost always have leather holsters and carry 45 or one of the magnum revolver cartridges rather than something like a 9mm polymer gun. The odd part is if they have a blacked-out Silverado, they are almost violently in the opposite direction. The blacked-out Trail Boss owners are some of the most aggressive and irritating gun owners I have ever met. If you don’t carry a nicer end modular gun with accessories plastered on it, then you clearly know nothing. These guys will typically have tricked-out Glock or SIG pistols with every accessory known to man but won’t be able to tell you the last time they went to the range.

Ford Bronco

This one may hurt some feelings. The Bronco won out over the Jeep Wrangler because Jeep people are usually fairly similar to Tacoma owners and go with a Glock variant. The Bronco owners are the closest thing to CZ owners as you can get on this list. The Bronco is the quirky alternative to the Jeep just like CZ owners carry a CZ because they want to be different and like to think they have taste and sophistication. The Ford Bronco is loud, but not in a good way. For some reason you have to love it which is exactly how I feel about most CZ pistols.

The CZ line of pistols is different from other options but these owners typically have to live the lifestyle as well instead of just carrying a gun for various reasons. Bronco drivers live the Bronco lifestyle just like CZ owners so I think this is the perfect match-up. Are either Broncos or CZs perfect? Absolutely not but that’s part of their charm and I can respect people who decide to carry CZs and they will most likely drive a Bronco.

Overall Thoughts

This clearly is backed up by any science but a good laugh and a way to poke fun at people in the gun community. I drive a vehicle on this list so I made fun of myself as well. Let me know what you carry and drive down in the comments below. If you want to take a guess at what I drive you can also do that down in the comments below.
