Colombian Army Picks Barrett MRAD Rifles and AM338 Suppressors

The Colombian National Army has awarded Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. its largest international military contract for the purchase of MRAD sniper rifles and AM338 suppressors. Deliveries are set to begin in the summer of 2025. MRAD is short for Multi-Role Adaptive Design. Above you can see the Colombia Contract MRAD rifle in OD Green, paired with Leupold’s Mark 5HD optic and the AM338 suppressor. We all know OD Green rifles are the best, don’t we?

The Barrett MRAD @ TFB:

The contract includes MRAD rifles in 7.62x51mm and .338 Lapua Magnum, along with AM338 suppressors and Leupold Mark 5HD optics. This acquisition is part of the Colombian military’s effort to standardize its precision rifle systems with a modular, multi-caliber platform.

According to Barrett, the AM338 suppressors are constructed from lightweight titanium alloy, fully CNC machined and orbital welded to reduce weight. The bore is precision-machined for perfect concentricity, ensuring rifle accuracy remains unaffected and that point-of-impact shift is minimal and consistent. Additionally, these suppressors are designed and tested to eliminate muzzle flash which is an important factor for military users.

Furthermore, it’s stated that the MRAD rifle was chosen based on its established performance in military and special forces use worldwide. Its adoption is expected to improve the Colombian National Army’s precision rifle capabilities for modern military operations.

A quote from Barrett’s press release:

“We are deeply honored to have secured this new contract with our professional customers in Colombia,” said Cooper Thompson, Barrett’s Director of International Sales. “This collaboration is a monumental moment for us, as this contract sets our record for the largest single acquisition of MRAD systems from any international military end user to date. We look forward to reinforcing our already successful relationship with the Colombian military, and we anticipate overwhelming success and growth together.”

Other countries known to use the Barrett MRAD are the USA, Indonesia, Israel, South Korea and Norway.
