Griffin Armament Releases the MK2 9mm PCC

Griffin Armament has released the MK2 9mm PCC, the first fully ambidextrous 9mm AR-15 with a forged 7075-T6 Type III Hardcoat Anodized receiver set. The MK2 9mm uses a lower receiver compatible with Colt or Metal Form 10, 20, and 32-round magazines. The lowers are built with a 1/4×28 nylon-tipped tension screw that can be adjusted to end-user upper-lower fitment preference and features the same ambidextrous controls offered in Griffin’s MK2 series of 5.56mm AR-15s.

The magazine well on the MK2 9mm was designed to accept Colt SMG magazines from the ground up, providing the opportunity to improve the feed ramp and magazine interface compared to standard magwell adapters. The proprietary feed ramp is tuned to feed cartridges perfectly to the centerline of the chamber, unlike the original Colt design, and affixed via a “whistlenotch” geometry by three Allen screws, pulling the 17-4 nitrided feed ramp into the receiver for reliable feeding of the 416R stainless steel HEDP 9mm barrel.

Additional improvements include the combined ejector and bolt catch extension as a single component without needing to adjust the ejector like the original Colt system. The brass buffer increases the weight while being sized specifically to limit bolt carrier group travel so casings cannot become lodged in the fire control pocket.

The MK2 9mm is equipped with Griffin’s new 2-stage trigger, configured at the factory but further adjustable for overtravel and disconnector engagement by the end user. This match trigger combines mil-spec 62RC 8620 trigger material and heat treatment with a 53RC 440C tool stainless disconnector, and 440C 53RC nickel Teflon coated tool steel lightened speed hammer.

The Griffin Armament MK2 9mm is available at this time in the following configurations:

4.5” barrel with 7.5” suppressed M-LOK handguard9.5” barrel with 13.5” suppressed M-LOK handguard16” with 13.5” M-LOK handguard

4.5” and 9.5” models are fitted with a Griffin 3-Lug barrel adapter and Griffin Armament recommends their Sportsman Ultra Light HD .36 or Bushwhacker .36 suppressors fitted with a 3-Lug interface. The 16” model includes a Griffin Taper Mount Flash Hider and accepts Griffin Taper Mount suppressors or any HUB-mount suppressor equipped with a Griffin Taper Mount HUB interface.

“Making the Griffin 9mm guns was a fun project for us. We were aware of the multiple issues that 9mm PCCs typically struggled with, such as feeding reliability issues, and we wanted to solve some of these issues in a MK2 series full ambidextrous platform. The proprietary feed ramp and ejector design is the most notable of these improvements over the original Colt SMGs, and allows for much more reliable feeding of 9mm cartridges including hollowpoint ammunition. We chose Colt magazines for aesthetic reasons and for reasons of better suitability to the AR-15 platform, to keep the classic SMG look, and to maintain the AR-15 manual of arms. Combining these factors with our buffer system produced a really soft-shooting PCC that we think our users will enjoy,” says Austin Green, Head of Product Development at Griffin Armament.

They had me at Colt SMG magazines. If these MK2 9mm guns are as nice as Griffin’s MK2 5.56mm AR-15s, this may be a solid winner for those looking for a PCC with familiar AR-15 controls. Let us know your thoughts on the new Griffin Armament MK2 9mm in the comments below.
