HM Defense HM50B2 Gen2 50BMG Bolt Action Rifle
HM Defense first introduced their HM50B .50BMG bolt action rifle in December of 2022. Shortly after the release, at SHOT Show 2023, we had a chance to see the rifle and learn about its differences from the Bushmaster BA50 and Remington R2Mi. The company has now announced the release of the second generation of this rifle called HM50B2. Let’s take a look at the key specs and features of this rifle and the changes over the first generation.

New HM Defense HMB AR-15 Bolt with Cam Pin Socket New Rifle from HM Defense: The Avenger M308 HM Defense Releases Monobloc Integrally Suppressed Stealth MS5 Rifle [SHOT 2023] HM Defense HM50B – Differences from Bushmaster BA50 and Remington R2Mi
Compared to the first generation rifle that had an M16A2 pattern buffer tube and came with a Magpul PRS stock, the new HM50B2 features a new stock designed by HM Defense. The new stock is machined of aluminum with steel mounting parts. It has an adjustable length of pull, cheekpiece, and butt pad. The bottom portion of the stock is designed to work as a bag rider but it can also be fitted with a Picatinny rail section (included with the rifle) for attaching monopods.
Other than the new stock, the HM50B2 rifle now has a more robust bolt handle mounting system that makes servicing the rifle more efficient as well as lightened and more modern-looking rail and receivers.
The HM Defense HM50B2 rifle has a 29.25” match grade button-rifled barrel with a 1:15” twist rate and 1”-14 muzzle threads. The 14” free-floated handguard, as well as the upper and lower receivers, are CNC machined out of aluminum. The aluminum parts are Cerakoted with black, tungsten and FDE color options available.
The rifle is fed from detachable box magazines of 10-round capacity. The patented bolt is made of 9310 steel. The bolt handle is located on the left side of the gun, the ejection port is on the right side. The rifle also features an HM Target Trigger, ERGO grip, and HM50 bipod with sled feet. The overall length of the rifle is 56.75” and it weighs 29.75 lbs (without optic, bipod and magazine).
