New Meridian Defense MDC-Combat AK Trigger
Typically, the first modification made to an AK is the trigger. Meridian Defense has introduced a new product known as the MDC-Combat Trigger. They have taken on the challenge of designing a new trigger, first implementing it in their rifle product line and now releasing it as an aftermarket trigger upgrade for the AK market. Meridian Defense is recognized for its high-quality work in building AK rifles, and they are now using their expertise to design an upgraded trigger specifically for the Kalashnikov platform.

The hammer of the MDC-Combat Trigger is made from S7 tool steel, while the trigger and disconnector are constructed from 4340 tool steel. The finish is treated with military-spec black oxide, providing superior corrosion resistance. This trigger design is close to a drop-in solution for AK rifles, using a trigger sleeve to house the disconnector and its spring. A key feature is the adjustable safety selector stop, which has a threaded screw for easier adjustments. The average advertised trigger pull weight is between 3.5 and 3.8 pounds, although reviews have indicated trigger weights of under 2 pounds. The trigger includes a new single-wire hammer spring, although no specific data is available on this spring.
The MDC-Combat Trigger preserves the classic aesthetics of the Combloc bowed trigger shoe while incorporating performance enhancements that elevate any commercial AK to the next level. This trigger is a perfect blend of reliability, durability, and high performance, making it an ideal solution for US commercial semi-automatic Kalashnikov-based rifles. Additionally, it accounts for three parts towards 922(r) compliance.
In terms of performance, the MDC-Combat Trigger competes well with the ALG Geissele Defense AK-T trigger. Where it truly excels is in its aesthetics and its durability. The ALG trigger and the MDC Combat Trigger are very similar in price ranges. This is one trigger I will need to test out for myself.
