Kimber 2K11 Offers Custom-Level Features And High-Capacity Magazines

John Browning’s classic 1911 pistol design has been around for well over 100 years now, and Kimber has been making updated takes on that design for a long time as well. But that doesn’t mean they are out of ideas; they just announced the new Kimber 2K11, a high-capacity 1911-pattern pistol that comes right out of the box with custom-level options.

Building (Another) Better 1911

For starters, Kimber specs a high-capacity double-stack mag for the new 2K11 pistol; the .45 ACP version ships with three 13-round mags, and the 9x19mm version ships with one 17-round mag and two 20-round mags.

From there, you get a stainless steel frame, slide and barrel, with a C&H optic mounting plate that fits Trijicon RMR footprints—three other optic mount plates are also available.

Both calibers are available in either standard or target configuration. The target models also include a ported slide, adjustable rear target-style sight and a Kimber-exclusive competition magwell from Stan Chen Customs.

The 2K11 has an external extractor, said to improve reliability and durability, and the grip module is made of Type III hard-anodized aluminum. The internals are designed for reliable feeding from those high-capacity double-stack mags, and Kimber includes their GT Trigger, which they say breaks crisply and cleanly at 3.5 pounds. The guide rod is designed for tool-less disassembly and cleaning making maintenance quick and easy.

Everett Deger, Kimber’s big boss of marketing and comms, said “We were determined to produce the very best high capacity 1911 and deliver a superior value. The 2K11 has several unique features that come standard that you have to have customized in the aftermarket to achieve what you get out of the box with Kimber.”

It looks like they have indeed come up with a lot of very attractive features out of the box. Pricing may be less than building an equivalent pistol through the aftermarket, but it is still not a low-priced pistol, starting at $1,995 for the standard 9mm model, and rising as high as $3,095 for the priciest model in the lineup.
