POTD: Chilean Special Forces With Colt M5s

The first online photograph is said to have been published by Tim Berners-Lee in 1992. It’s uncertain how many were able to see the image at that time, but probably only a very limited number. TFB’s Photo Of The Day is hopefully a lot more popular. Here we do our best find interesting high-quality images with a focus on firearms of all sorts.

Today we set sail to Valparaiso, Chile, for a visit, board, search and seizure team including Chilean Special Forces, U.S. Coast Guard Maritime Security Response Team East, and U.S. Coast Guard Tactical Law Enforcement Team San Diego. They’re searching the Chilean Navy replenishment oiler CNS Almirante Montt (AO-52) as part of a VBSS training evolution as part of Chilean navy-hosted exercise UNITAS LXV (65) on September 2024.

It looks like some of the soldiers are using the Colt M5, which is a short-stroke piston design.

“UNITAS is the longest-running multinational maritime exercise in the world, focused on enhanced interoperability in maritime and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and to create new relationships that will promote peace, stability, and prosperity. U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command/U.S. 4th Fleet is the maritime component of U.S. Southern Command and the trusted maritime partner for Caribbean, Central and South America maritime forces leading to improved unity, security and stability.“
