Kimber Announces The New R7 Mako Carbon Compact
The R7 Mako Carbon Compact is the latest edition to Kimber’s R7 series, a feature-rich striker-fired handgun built 100% in the USA with a completely redesigned carbon fiber-infused matrix frame. Packed with ergonomic attention to detail, ambidextrous controls, durability, and compatibility with optics and suppressors, let’s take a closer look at all the new Kimber R7 Mako Carbon Compact has to offer.
The Frame
The Kimber R7 Mako Carbon Compact frame was redesigned from the ground up using a carbon fiber-infused matrix offering 60,000 lb of tensile strength for lasting EDC durability in any environment. Molded stippling provides grip where it counts without being overly rough for a carry gun. The flared magwell speeds up the reloading of your two included 15-round magazines while a forward accessory rail allows for the use of light or laser modules.
The R7 Mako Carbon Compact features ambidextrous slide and magazine releases, playing nicely with both right and left-handers. The handgun looks to have a very aggressive double undercut and includes four interchangeable modular backstraps, for enhanced ergonomics, control, and recoil mitigation. Rounding off the frame is Kimber’s performance carry trigger with trigger safety at a factory setting of 5 lb to 6.75 lb promising a crisp break only when you say so.
What’s On Top?
The stainless steel slide on the R7 Mako Carbon Compact is finished via ferritic nitrocarburizing (FNC) for enhanced corrosion resistance, reduced need for lubrication, and overall increased longevity resulting from a lower coefficient of friction. Kimber’s hallmark side ejection port and no-snag design provide for sleek everyday concealed carry. Both stainless barrel options come with a 1:10 left twist rate. Topping off the slide is a pre-milled optics cut with RMSc/Holosun K footprint compatibility, cover plate, and 3-Dot TruGlo Tritium Pro Night Sights with orange front and white rear rings. Nice touch.
