HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Soviet Connection or Wildcat Rejection?
Welcome everyone to the 242nd Edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only have Fudd appeal? Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.
In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the custom AR pistol was just fudd crap.
At this time the original auction has ended with no bids on the little AR pistol that could. Now we can only hope that this little budget blaster will find its way to a new home in the not-so-distant future.
In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a Krebs AK pattern rifle chambered in 9×39. As is tradition, this Soviet chambered gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $2,199 Starting Bid with No Reserve.
HOT GAT or FUDD CRAP? Soviet Connection or Wildcat Rejection?
Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:
“When you’re trying to one-up your gun bros for weirdest, most boutique gun you’ll never find ammo for, and you sadly win…” – Adam S. “No need for a suppressor w 9×39-the lack of ammo makes it super quiet to begin with!” Rusty S. “the official gun of explaining to people why the best load of your chosen caliber outperforms the worst load of their chosen caliber” – Hop “Darth Vader voice: “I find your lack of iron sights disturbing.” – Doug E.
Selling this limited edition wildcat gat is GunBroker seller blue79luke, located in Wichita KS. Let’s see what they had to say about this limited edition AK.
There are two, well we’ll just call them problems, with this little AK pistol that could. First and foremost is the caliber. I’ve been an early adopter of plenty of calibers over the years, which got me into reloading. I’ll also be the first to admit that it is awful in many respects, and if that caliber never catches on (I doubt 9×39 ever will) you might find yourself reloading for life. Or turning this into a safe queen.
The second problem is scarcity and artificial markets. As soon as any manufacturer starts doing limited numbers, the price goes up, and the value arguably goes down. I have plenty of guns just like this, so once again I’ve fallen for this. Does that make this any less cool? No. Would this be an awesome suppressor host? Yes. Do I hate a part of myself for wondering how good this might sound suppressed? Maybe. Either way, I own more than a couple AK and AKM pattern rifles and while fun, they do add up quickly.
What do you think? Is this little AK pistol worth it for a shade over $2k or are you better off saving that money for a rainy day? As always I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
